New School Year. New School.

The start of the new school year brought changes for our children in Uganda. We’ve shared in our newsletters before that the youngest children were moved from Bunia, just across the border to Uganda, due to safety concerns. As the conflict worsened, we wanted to ensure they would be out of harm’s way.

One thing we haven’t shared until now is how much that move impacted us financially.

The cost of living and schooling the children in Uganda marked a significant increase. For children in Bunia, fees were about $15 USD per month. That doubled when the kids went over to Uganda. We also have to invest in new uniforms and school supplies. This one-time fee totals about $90 USD. The cost of housing also doubled, along with food. We also needed to pay for transportation for the kids to get around — a new cost of about $200 USD every month.

This is a big part of the reason why we’re applying for charitable status. When we met with government officials earlier this year, they encouraged us to pursue this designation, pointing out that our work is humanitarian in nature.

We’re grateful for everyone who has been with us on this journey, helping us to raise the funds necessary to advance our humanitarian efforts up to this point.

And we’re grateful for every donation that helps to ensure these beautiful children get the education they deserve.
