ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Our History
As a child who had to flee war and civil unrest in Ituri province, Jemimah Kabagenyi has a heart for children living in the Democratic Republic of Congo today. Along with Nadia Tchoumi, they founded Not Forgotten, with a passion for supporting children who’d lost everything: their homes, their parents and their freedom to live normal lives.
present day
The situation in Ituri province was in the news again on May 2020, as the persistent threat of unrest reared it’s head again amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Many were massacred, raped, sexually, abused and displaced from their homes. Not Forgotten’s focus is on the children who have lost one or both of their parents due to the ongoing genocide. They are traumatized and living on the streets in Bunia and other places, scared of being killed at any moment. The children go days or weeks without any food and water and other basic essential needs. The United Nations (UN) has acknowledged there is a genocide in Ituri against the Hema tribe but, currently, not much is being doen to help the people. We have been raising funds with a few friends and sending it to a colleague residing in the affected area in Bunia, who helps to purchase the food and cook for the children. The number of affected children. At the moment, we are supporting 12 children and 2 women.
What is our goal
Our Vision
Our goal is to establish a home for these children, where they will be cared for and fed. Their tuition will also be paid for, so they can go to school and further their education. Through partnerships, we hope to be able to cover the cost of their tuition at African universities. Children at the Not Forgotten home will also have access to trauma-informed counselling services.
