Story of Hope: Meet Esther.

Esther’s life is nothing short of a miracle.

It was November 2021. Violence in Ituri Province meant civilians were caught in the crossfire. That included Esther and her family.

Esther somehow managed to miraculously escape. She survived but sustained a bullet wound to her left hand.

She has been in our care since then, receiving emergency medical treatment at the time. At first, the trauma of the incident was too much for her. Rehabilitating her into the home alongside the other children took time; loud noises brought back memories of the gunfight that claimed the lives of members of her family.

But Esther is an overcomer.

Now, she attends school, plays with other children and is getting the care and attention she needs.

Part of that care includes a much-needed operation on her left hand. The injury is painful and has left her feeling embarrassed at times when she’s around other children. Surgery would help to restore her left hand’s functionality.

We’re sharing the story of Esther as part of our 2024 Giving Tuesday Campaign. It isn’t too late for you to join in!

We’re raising $1,500 to cover the cost of her surgery. Any amount you can give to help Esther get the care she needs would mean so much to us.
